Silver Sneakers

Active older adults are one of Fayette Counties Greatest Resources.

We know that they are seeking a comfortable place to stay active, a sense of community and a desire to strengthen social ties. For good reason: socializing and volunteering have been shown to have positive effects on the health of older adults, and exercise has proven to promote mental agility, in addition to longevity and good health.

Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit, Renew Active (AARP)

The Fayette County Family YMCA is a provider of these Medicare Advantage programs. The programs are comprehensive physical activity programs that addresses the needs of Medicare (usually 65+) population. Members of sponsoring health plans receive a membership that includes the opportunity to participate in the group exercise classes as well as facility usage. The classes are appropriate for older adults who are fit and active as well as those who are sedentary, intimidated, unfamiliar with exercise, entering post-rehabilitation programs and all those who enjoy a positive, upbeat social environment. Those enrolled in sponsoring health plans must complete appropriate enrollment paperwork at the YMCA and be approved through the provider.

Currently, we offer the SilverSneakers MSROM, SilverSneakers Silver Splash and SilverSneakers EnerChi. Silver Sneakers members are welcome to try out any of our other group exercise classes, including bodyworks, yoga or dancing at the Y as well.
